KNOW-HOW

CREATIVE PERFUMERY

For nearly two centuries, our passion has driven the creation of unique perfumes preserving a heritage that values the work of artisans, all based in France.

Evoking an intangible emotion, perfume appeals to our imagination, yet it requires a unique know-how combining specific talents. It's a multi-step process of precision work that we take pleasure in sharing with you through our creations, but also within our declarations.

Créations des Parfums D'ORSAY Paris - Ingrédients d'origine responsable

PARTITION

It can take several years to create the perfect fragrance. The perfumer fuses creativity and expertise, mastering the palette of 1200 ingredients that make up a fragrance and their interactions.

Like a musician exploring a score, the perfumer creates several proposals, playing with notes, chords and harmony until the desired result is achieved.

There are fewer perfumers in the world than astronauts (fewer than a hundred), and only 250 dedicate themselves to fine perfumery — also known as niche perfumery.

Les ingrédients des Parfums D'ORSAY sont d'origine responsable et non testés sur des animaux.

REALIZATION

Once the olfactive pyramid is established, comprising top, heart and base notes, the equally important technical part begins.

The pure concentrate is created from natural ingredients such as Rose, Jasmine or Vetiver, or synthetic ingredients such as Musk.

The juice imagined by the perfumer is then reproduced and arranged down to the smallest detail, according to a secret recipe to guarantee the perfume's full expression and longevity over time.

PREPARATION

Like wine, the precious liquid then macerates for some time to develop its aromas, passing through a glazing phase that freezes the maturation process at the time recommended by the perfumer.

It is then dissolved in alcohol, i.e. diluted in calculated proportions, to become either an Extrait de Parfum (the most concentrated version of a fragrance), an Eau de Parfum, an Eau de Toilette or an Eau de Cologne (the lightest).

PRODUCTION

The final stage is bottling. This is the moment that combines the human touch with the machine precision.

It is the machine that injects the fragrance into each bottle in a delicate, mechanical dance, placing the spray and its magnetic cap, affixing the label imagined as a sweet bill, before finally placing the fruit of our labor in its box.

Our packaging are made from paper sourced from sustainable resources guaranteed by the Forest Stewardship Council.

EXCEPTIONAL CRAFTSMANSHIP

CANDLES

A real decorative object declined in amber or dark green glass, the creation of our 250 gram candles requires the gestures of more than eight craftsmen.

An ancestral work which values the unique know-how of the French glass and crystal workshops.

CREATION

It all begins in a century-old glass and crystal workshop in the Bresle Valley in Upper Normandy. It's here that the glass characterized by its interior gadroons (fine vertical grooves) takes shape.

Craftsmen collect a mass of molten glass at the end of their glassmaking cane. They rotate the metal rod continuously to obtain a homogeneous mass.

CASTING

They take turns blowing the glass, cutting it, then integrating the molten glass into a mold made exclusively for D'ORSAY.

The unfinished glass is then carefully removed from the mould, before the edge is cut and carefully polished. Then comes the lacquering of the previously transparent pot to obtain the amber or dark green shade.

GILDING

The emblematic D'ORSAY monogram, reinterpreted from the D'ORSAY archives, is then applied in a gilding workshop.

The brushed brass base is then placed on the glass, providing a luminous echo to the round, gilded monogram.

TRADITION

Then it's time to place the pure cotton wick and pour the scented wax.

This stage is carried out in a century-old wax-making workshop, a repository of the traditions and values of wax-makers, and of production techniques that are - in some cases - no longer used today: the great tradition of hand-crafting.

HERITAGE

This heritage traces back to the ancestral craftsmanship of the Maîtres Ciriers of the Ciergerie des Prémontrés, passed down in 1904 by the monks of Frigolet Abbey to the great-grandfather of the current Master Candle Maker, established in Provence, not far from Grasse.

Each wax, whether mineral or vegetable, is carefully selected for its exceptional quality and chosen with precision according to the fragrance it is intended to diffuse. The “paste,” a bespoke blend, is specially developed for each fragrance, ensuring a precise and perfectly balanced olfactory diffusion.
